About Reliant Gem Lab

Robert Bauman has forty years of experience in the jewelry industry. Prior to creating Reliant Gem Lab, Robert developed a thorough understanding of various retail markets as a graduate gemologist and jewelry designer for various jewelers within the Portland and Vancouver area. Soon after, Robert launched Reliant Gem Lab and has been actively engaged in providing convenient “while you wait” jewelry appraisals for customers throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Robert received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Oregon State College in business and in 1982, attended the Gemological Institute of America, where he received his Graduate Gemologist Diploma.  During his residency, Robert was awarded the “Diamond Grading and Evaluation” certificate, as well as his “Colored Stone Grading Evaluation and Identification Certification”. In 1983 he became a member of the Gemological Institute of America Alumni Association. As a constant student and participant in the art of jewelry design, Robert entered the 1988 Diamonds-International Awards (sponsored by DeBeers) and his design was selected for final judging in London. Robert continues to pursue his creative endeavors and feels this is a vital part of producing an appraisal for his customers. The American Gem Society awarded Robert with the designation of Certified Gemologist Appraiser in 1999.

For 18 years, Reliant Gem Lab was honored to be the designated jewelry appraisal service for one of the leading national jewelry companies during their product shows, in 40 different locations throughout the greater Portland and Vancouver area.
